On Saturday, April 29, 1972, the New Iberia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was established for the members of the organization who lived in the New Iberia and surrounding areas. The Alumnae Chapter was proposed by an organized group of Delta women who joined together with the dream of public service based on the Christian principles set forth by the founders.

The service for establishment was conducted at the home of Soror Audrey Ausberry by Soror Corrine Maybuce, Southwest Regional Director, under the authorization of Soror Lillian Benbow, National President. Fourteen women witnessed the occasion.
